Chris von Gartzen is a Grand prix dressage rider, breeder,

importer and owner of Northwinds Farm

I have been a breeder of dressage horses and importer of quality German Warmblood horses for the past 30 years
When the time came to sell my gelding ‘ Diego’ Emily Hill was highly recommended to me and so I sent the horse to her barn to be sold.

Emily was very professional, always concerned about the horse’s well being, good training routine and excellent nutrition. She wants the horses to be happy and content in their work and treats each horse on a very individual basis. Emily handled prospective buyers on a professional basis always having the horse’s best interest in mind. She succeeded in finding Diego the perfect home with a well matched rider.

The sale was handled beautifully, honestly and with integrity. I would highly recommend Emily Hill, her beautiful facilities and caring staff to anyone looking to sell their horse

Dr. Robin Wulf is Veterinarian, Eventer and Dressage Rider
based in Ohio, USA.

I am a veterinarian in the US, and a recent convert to Dressage from the sport of Eventing. I happily made the switch to dressage on a 'cadillac' type Hanoverian but when I purchased a new younger 'sports car' version as my new dressage partner, I was faced with a sensitive, athletic partner that was was a challenge with a full time career and two actively competing horses. Other breeders have always spoken so highly of Emily, and after speaking with her and watching numerous videos, as well as seeing her ride at a Hanoverian Mare Performance Testing, I sent my young 3 year old horse across the border for her to back. She recently returned after 2 months with Emily this fall, and she is confident, glistening with good care, and mannerly. It is obvious that my filly benefited from all aspects of her care, and she will be returning to Emily this coming spring for further training and Mare Performance Test preparation. My expectations were exceeded in every aspect of my filly's care. I would recommend Emily's program to anyone on either side of the border, it's well worth the steps needed to go across the border; and did I mention Emily handled all of those as well? Truly a wonderful program with exceptional talent and care.

Emily started the filly under saddle and she sold to a Grand Prix dressage rider from California

"I am a Hanoverian breeder, and for five years  I have been sending my youngsters to Emily for training - and referring other clients who have also been well served.

Emily has taken my farm-raised 3 year olds and moulded them into happy, respectful, well-trained riding horses. I appreciate that Emily is not only patient and meticulous in her training, but she also treats each youngster as an individual, and takes the necessary time to develop his/her confidence as well as accustoming the youngster to undersaddle work with an emphasis on 'forward, relaxed and responsive'.  As part of that process, Emily ensures that ground manners are excellent, whether being led, bathed or groomed, so that buyers are assured of a safe and happy prospect.

In addition to classical undersaddle training, Emily oversees other important aspects of horse management while the horses are in her care, encompassing feed, turnout or farrier/vet assistance, as required. I know my youngsters are "safe" with her."

"We had the privilege of meeting Emily many years ago through our common love of dressage. Since then Emily has been a welcomed addition at Fox Hollow Stables. We have been sending our young horses to be started and marketed by Emily for many years. Emily has a wonderful rapport with people and horses of all ages. Her ability to connect with people and horses lets her excel in her chosen career with sport horses. She has excellent written and verbal communication skills, is extremely organized, reliable and computer savvy. Emily works independently and is able to follow through to ensure that the young horse reaches its target market. She accomplishes these tasks with great initiative and with a positive attitude. Her strong character and integrity has made her excel in the dressage show ring and her positive reputation precedes her. We highly recommend Emily as she is the complete package with her expertise in breeding knowledge, web designer and young horse development."

Laurie O'Neill is a competitive and successful dressage rider. Last summer she rode her young Hanoverian mare Do Re Mi to multiple victories in the FEI 6 Year Old Classes with a top score of 80.00%. She is pictured here on her next young star, three year old Spiderman (Sir Donnerhall x Contendro) who has been developing beautifully at UpHill Dressage. They will make a very exciting combination in the future.

"I had never met Emily prior to sending my young, sensitive 3 year old to her. I was going on the recommendation of the breeder as well as some video footage I had seen of her riding. I was also a little nervous because the barn was 5.5 hours away from my home so I wouldn't be able to keep an eye on him. After dropping him off and meeting Emily I said "this is the perfect place for him". I was correct! Emily is extremely knowledgeable , professional and she pays attention to detail. She is a relaxed, sensitive and thoughtful rider. I am so pleased with not only the wonderful training but also the exceptional care and love shown to "Spider-Man" during his stay. This combination is not easy to find. It is obvious to me that this is not just a job for Emily but something she loves and is passionate about. I would strongly recommend her!"

Anne White is an ambitious Ad.Am. dressage rider. In addition to her love for her horses, she owns and manages her successful business. She purchased her RPSI gelding Cooper as a foal and has self-trained him up through the levels. Anne is an excellent student with a passion for learning. The combination is now succesfully showing at Second Level and schooling Third Level. Pictured is Anne and Copper during a clinic at Dreamcatcher.

"I am an adult amateur in my 50’s and two years ago I met Emily. During the last two years I have watched her train numerous young warmbloods. She trains her horses with love and care but also lets them know what is right and wrong. She develops all of her horses using the classical German training scale and also uses lots of gymnastic stretching work.

I approached Emily a year ago to help me with my RPSI gelding Cooper. We were both starting back riding after illness and he could be very difficult at times. At first Emily rode him to work him though his issues about going forward and accepting contact; then she helped me learn how to successfully ride him and also get him through the trying times. My horse is now forward, using his hide legs, light off my leg, and he has a great work ethic.

Emily invests the time into making horses great riding partners. Due to our great success with getting Cooper and myself working more as a team, Emily is now my full time coach. If I ever get a young horse again, I would not hesitate to have Emily Hill of UpHill Dressage start it. I would also highly recommend the horses she trains that are for sale because she does a wonderful job."

Kerry Langdon is a Ad.Am. dressage rider who has competed to Prix St. Georges. She purchased her Hanoverian mare Dornenprinzessin in Germany and has schooled her to Third Level. She is an important part of UpHill Dressage's success, working as the quiet, calm ground person for Emily when she starts horses undersaddle. Pictured is Kerry and Dornenprinzessin during a clinic at Dreamcatcher.

"I have known Emily Hill of Uphill Dressage for several years and have observed her capably and competently start numerous young horses.  Emily assesses each young horse and kindly but firmly, teaches the horses under her care how to be safe, confident, happy horses that consistently move with relaxation, impulsion and connection. She provides each horse with an excellent foundation for an illustrious dressage career. Emily also utilizes her extensive knowledge of bloodlines when matching sales horses to prospective buyers and her horses are always professionally turned out.

Emily coaches a select group of riders and is committed to wholeheartedly helping her students achieve their goals. From personal experience I can relate that even when these goals unexpectedly shift, as they can do when horses are involved, Emily remains positive and encouraging. Emily is committed to continuously improving and refining her riding and regularly trains with some of Canada's top riders. In addition to having a natural love of horses she has an unwavering commitment to classical and correct training. Her professionalism, dedication, knowledge and skill as well as her engaging personality make her an excellent choice for any dressage enthusiast."
