VETTING & TRANSPORT

Once you have made you decision to purchase an Uphill Dressage horse you are welcome to vet the horse to your own level of satisfaction. All Uphill Dressage horses sell with open vet records and health info sheets made up with all of their pertinent info and most of the horses are selling with recent sets of digital xrays which are available to you and your vet. You are welcome to have any additional exams, diagnostics, blood testing or imaging performed.

To cross the border from Canada to the USA horses need to have a current negative EIA (commonly called a Coggins Test) which has been drawn in the last 6 months, and a current Health Certificate (commonly called Export Papers) which has been stamped in the last 30 days prior to crossing. The vet of your choosing can easily complete these two criteria during the Pre Purchase Exam visit. If desired, your chosen vet can also perform an Insurance exam and complete your US Insurance form at the same time so Insurance can be bound prior to transport.

Air Ride Transport Options:

We have sold horses across North America and have always had good experiences with the international shippers listed below. Horses generally ship door to door in bedded box stalls with hay and water and have consistently arrived in good shape. Horses headed to more remote locations in the USA normally lay over for a day at Dr. Poole’s lovely facility in Lexington KY then do the second leg of their trip. Your horse will be sent to you bathed with a braided tail, in a new halter and breathable blanket (weather dependent). Shod horses can wear bell boots and we will send them wrapped if desired although shippers prefer bare legs for longer trips. We will send them with water and hay and a premix of their current grain, Sold horses will be given electrolytes and Omeprazole prior to shipping at Uphill’s expense and hand walked or lightly lunged prior to loading up.

Horses will be kept in their normal turnout and exercise routines prior to transport. We are believers in delivering the horse that people trialed so we do not lock up or stop riding our horses once they are sold as many sellers in this industry do. It is in the horse’s best interest to remain happy, healthy and exercised until shipping.
